Other Services
Demolition & Soft Strips
High-reach demolition allows us to drastically reduce the risk of our operatives working at any height.
As trusted demolition contractors in Wellington, we’re often the same crew that handled the asbestos removal a few days earlier, so there’s no handover gap. From a soft strip ahead of a fit-out to a full residential teardown, we begin demolition only after the site is completely clear.
Environmental Cleaning
Our services expand beyond asbestos management. We also provide contaminated site cleanups, bird and rat excrement removal, and mould removal in Wellington’s older, damp homes.
Most environmental cleanup companies only handle one of these services; the team at PRO Environmental Services can handle them all.
Why should I worry about Asbestos?
Asbestos can be found in buildings, including homes, offices, schools, and factories, that were built before the year 2000. Due to the dangers posed by airborne fibres, asbestos must be identified and removed by professionals who can ensure that the fibres do not become airborne and are disposed of quickly.
Once inhaled, these microscopic fibres lodge deep in the lungs and can’t be expelled. Over time, they can cause serious illnesses including asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma (an aggressive cancer almost exclusively caused by asbestos). Symptoms often take 20 to 40 years to appear, and there is no known safe level of exposure. That’s why asbestos must be identified and removed by professionals who can ensure fibres don’t become airborne and are disposed of safely.
Wellington’s housing stock skews old, with plenty of villas, state houses, and 1970s–80s builds still standing, so if your property has never had asbestos testing, there’s a real chance the question has simply never come up.

When you hear the words Asbestos you automatically think well I really only need one Kidney. However, Adrian and his team were 💯 % professional, 💯 percent transparent and were totally efficient in the set up, including communications with the neighbours, the job day itself and the inspection and report to say Asbestos’s Free. If you have a removal job talk to these guys they are clearly at the top of their game and you get to keep your second kidney! 👌

Dealing with this business was trouble-free from go to whoa!
Quick with their quote, quick to confirm a date once quote accepted, arrived on time, did a superb clean-up job (beyond just the asbestos), and then a quick follow-up the next day to make sure there were no loose ends.
Superb job all round, Adrian and team! 👏👏

I have recently dealt with Warana Ormsby. He was excellent at his job, very polite and knowledgeable about Asbestos. In the industry I work in Real Estate we are often asked this question with older homes. Nothing was a problem for Warana, he was very efficient and communicated well. What a fantastic company you are.
I highly recommend anyone get in touch.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my Wellington property has asbestos?
If your property was built or renovated before 2000, there’s a reasonable chance some asbestos-containing material is present somewhere in its ceilings, flooring, cladding, insulation, or any of the other usual spots.
What’s the difference between Class A and Class B asbestos removal?
Both require a licensed team to conduct removal, but Class A work needs stricter containment and air monitoring.
Can I remove asbestos myself?
For small amounts of non-friable asbestos under 10m², you can legally do it yourself, but WorkSafe still expects it to be done safely and disposed of correctly. Anything friable, or any non-friable job over that size, legally requires a licensed Class A or Class B operator.
Given the health risk if it goes wrong, most homeowners go through licensed environmental cleanup companies rather than risk it themselves.
How long does asbestos testing in Wellington take?
A standard residential test usually takes a few hours on-site to collect samples, with lab results typically coming back within a few business days. Larger commercial properties needing samples from multiple buildings take a bit longer, since more material needs testing.
