Contaminated areas are very common in New Zealand, and we have attended numerous jobs that required an environmental clean.This is usually caused by cross-contamination from previous contractors, or by poor asbestos removal before the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 were introduced.

The team got stuck in immediately by setting up barriers and  signage to block off working areas to keep other contactors and members of the public out of harm’s way.
We then began constructing our enclosure by setting up polythene on the walls and floor., and connected speed docks to ensure the correct form of decontamination was used and appropriate air flow was maintained.

Once everyone was happy with the setup , the assessor checked in to see the overall integrity of the enclosure and gave us the all clear to begin work inside the roof void.

After we removed the insulation and cleaned the void top to bottom, the assessor again checked our work to make sure everything was done correctly before the team began the next stage. Next, we encapsulated the full 215LM worth of soffits using ET-150 and had that work inspected by the assessor. Finally,  we took down the enclosure and tasked the assessor with one final inspection.

After everything we were left with two 3m3 hazibags (asbestos removal bags) filled with  waste, which we transported back to Wellington with the team in the most safe and practical way.

Overall, this asbestos removal job was completed in just four days.
