Initially, the external cladding at this Masterton workshop was not going to be removed, even though it had been found to contain asbestos. However, someone then crashed into this wall, which made an emergency asbestos removal necessary as quickly as possible.
Fortunately, PRO Environmental services works throughout the Martinborough and greater Wellington region, so we were able to complete the job quickly.

The asbestos removal process
As with all our asbestos removal and environmental cleaning work, PRO Environmental Services ensures all our operatives wear the required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE). These are necessary to keep ourselves safe during any asbestos removal project. We adhere to the WorkSafe NZ guidelines during testing, removal, transportation and disposal, because safety is paramount to us and our clients.
The project was completed safely in one day, and involved the removal of 25m2 of asbestos cladding. An independent assessor inspected the site the next day and gave us the all clear, and we disposed of the waste to designated landfill spaces according to current rules and regulations.

After this job was completed, we also attached some polythene to weatherproof the removal area to protect our client’s property from the unpredictable weather in Wellington. We also put some temporary hoarding up to secure the site to give our client peace of mind.
